FROM JULIA
Congratulations to all Student Concert choreographers, dancers and crew! Excellent concerts – choreography, dancing and production values. You should be very proud of your work!
Merde to our ACDFA Choreographers – Alexa Sanniola, Christian Lopez and Sara Crayne-Dedrick – and their dancers for this week of showings and sharing with other regional artists!
Julia Leave of Absence: I will be on a leave of absence from Mason Gross from March 14 until May 1, 2014. I will be working on a dance theatre project for the 19th Istanbul International Theatre Festival. I will be back for the second weekend of DancePlus, end-of-year student review meetings, the EdM portfolio presentations and of course, graduation!

ATTENTION FEMALE BFA DANCERS
in the Department of Dance at Mason Gross School of the Arts
You have a unique opportunity to receive $250.00 worth of physiological & peformance testing for free!
The Dance Department is collaborating with Rutgers Human Performance Lab to run clinical studies on high-level, elite female dancers enrolled in ballet and modern classes this semester.
You participation will include:
– Two days of lab based testing in the lab in the Loree Building – 2 hours each day – you choose a time that works for you
– Two days of testing during your ballet and modern classes, in which you will wear special biometric testing gear
You will receive:
– A complete analysis of your aerobic, anaerobic, power and body composition data
– A consultation with Dr. Shawn Arent, director of the Human Performance Lab and his research assistants to explain all your results and make recommendations for further enhancement of your performance capacity
DESCRIPTION OF STUDY:
Physiological Profiles and Training Demands in High-Level Female Dancers
The purpose of this study is to determine aerobic capacity, power, anaerobic power, and body composition in a sample of high-level female dancers. A secondary purpose is to determine typical physiological workload and corresponding caloric expenditure in these dancers during training for two different disciplines (modern dance and ballet). Most descriptive studies in this area have primarily focused on balance and flexibility rather than bioenergetic and metabolic demands.
Materials and Methods
Subjects
Approximately 40 healthy, female Dance majors ages 18-28 with at least 4 years of formal dance training will be asked to participate in this study. This study will be limited to females due to the disparity that exists in dance between males and females as well as to compare performance profiles to established norms for female college athletes. Additionally, limiting the study to females will help to control for muscular power and ventilatory capacity differences that exist between genders, even if controlling for training history. Risks and benefits will be explained to the subjects and each of them will give written informed consent prior to participation in the study. All individuals must be free from current injuries, illnesses, or metabolic conditions limiting their ability to train and complete physiological testing. A health screening will be completed with each subject in accordance with American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) exercise testing procedures.
Dr. Arent and his research assistants would like to begin the study after spring break
If you are interested, please sign the sheet outside of Studio 110 or contact Hollie Palmisano
Do yourself, your health and your career a favor and participate in this opportunity!

ATTENTION BFA SENIORS!
All BFA graduating dancers need to log on to the Diploma Application and fill out a brief form. This notifies the Registrar that you intend to graduate. The Registrar in turn orders a diploma. There is a link from the Mason Gross webpage, if you read the information about Convocation.
Or click here
It only takes a minute to complete. Please do this BEFORE SPRING BREAK.

AUDITIONS
Shared Audition: with Kyle Abraham, Faye Driscoll and Brian Brooks
Kyle Abraham hosts a shared audition with fellow New York dance makers Brian Brooks, and Faye Driscoll, for possible touring and performance opportunities with their companies Abraham.In.Motion, Brian Brooks Moving Company, and Faye Driscoll Dance Group.
These three renowned NYC-based contemporary dance makers are seeking new dancers for paid rehearsals and performance. All applicable candidates must show an interest in an investigative process that includes, above all things, an open mind and a willingness to work in a collaborative group environment.
The audition will be held Monday, March 17. Pre-registration is required to secure an audition appointment. Candidates must send a photo and resume to abrahaminmotionintern@gmail.com with AUDITION in the subject line.
This audition also comes with a bit of homework! Once you have registered, you will receive a link to a video of choreography that must be learned prior to the audition.
