WELCOME to our new students and faculty and welcome back to all returning students, faculty and staff who together form our vibrant dance community. The new year brings opportunities for learning, creating and performing together and I look forward to sharing exciting journeys with everyone. Please take a moment to review this blog, which has a new look as well as updated content on this year’s guest artists, updates on health & wellness, kudos and special events.
JOIN US for our first NEW WORKS Dance Concert, featuring the work of Barbara Angeline, Kimani Fowlin and Laura Peterson on Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6 at 7:30pm in the Loree Dance Theater.

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS:

Please log onto myRutgers to check your schedule and make sure you are registered for all the correct classes.  If you have any questions, email Frederick Curry, Undergraduate Director, at frederick.curry@rutgers.edu.

ATTENTION SENIORS:

All seniors MUST meet with Frederick during the second week of school to make sure they are on track to graduate in May. Meeting times are:
Monday, Sept. 8, 12-3:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 9,  12-4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 10, 4-5 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 12, Noon-3 p.m.

DECOMMISSIONING OF STUDENT CAMPUS EMAIL SERVICES

(Eden, Pegasus, and Clam)

All users can review their eCollege forwarding address in ‘My Profile’ on the upper right hand side of the eCollege screen.

The Office of Information Technology will complete its transition to ScarletApps (Google Apps for Education at Rutgers) and decommission student campus email services on Eden, Pegasus, and Clam as of July 1, 2014. After this date you will still be able to log in to your Eden or Pegasus account, but you will not be able to receive new email. On Tuesday, September 2rd and Wednesday, September 3th, all BFA students will be auditioning for their Technique placement.  Please check the bulletin board upstairs next to Studio 110 for your assigned room placements.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT

New ​Full-Time ​Faculty Member:

​Chien-Ying Wang

Professor Chien-Ying Wang hails from Taiwan. She received her MFA degree in Dance from Ohio State University, BFAdegree from Northern Illinois University, and AA degree from National Taiwan Academy of Arts. She was a soloist with Repertory Dance Theatre in Utah from 2002-2007. Before coming to the United States, she danced professionally with Taipei Ballet Company and Joy Dance Company. Wang was awarded the University Fellowship at OSU, and in 2006 she was a recipient of the Project Support Grant from Salt Lake City Arts Council to present Bridging Bridges – an evening dance concert. In 2013, Wang was nominated as an outstanding alumna of National Taiwan University of Arts for her significant contribution in dance. She is a certified Labanotation teacher and has taught both ballet and modern dance at OSU, American College Dance Festival and NTUA. Most recently, she was a faculty member at Southern Utah University, where she taught Modern Dance, Classical Ballet, Dance Repertory, Interactive Composition – Dance & Technology, Sound for Dance and Dance Ensemble. Her performing experience includes solo roles in several ballets (Paquita, Nutcracker,Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty), plus contemporary works by Zvi Gotheiner, Gideon Obarzanek, Susan Hadley, Shapiro & Smith, Tandy Beal, Stephen Koester, Lucas Hoving, Molissa Fenley, Douglas Nielsen, Victoria Uris, John Giffin, and many more. Her choreographic works has been presented in RDT, NTUA, Dance New Amsterdam and Manhattan Movement & Arts Center in New York City, Cultural Center of the Philippines, SUU and other performance venues. In May 2010, she received funding from National Culture and Arts Foundation in Taiwan and SUU Provost’s Faculty Development Grant to present Equanimity in National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center, Taiwan. Wang’s current research deals with the interfacing of live performance and video dance.

FACULTY KUDOS

Congratulations to chair and artistic director Julia Ritter, who was awarded the Prix André G. Bourassa for the best research presented at the international colloquium titled “L’engagement du spectateur” in Quebec in May 2014. Julia’s research paper was titled, “The Flesh is the Stage: The Impact of Dance Practices on Spectatorship in Immersive Theatres.”

The colloquium was jointly sponsored by the Université of Quebec-Trois Rivieres and Université Libre de Bruxelles.The award is granted by the La Société Québécoise d’études Théâtrales (SQET) in honor of André G. Bourassa, theatre scholar, and professor emeritus and founder of the Centre for Theatre Research at Université du Québec à Montréal.
