Equilibrium Choreography Showcase
The Equilibrium Choreography Showcase was created to provide young choreographers a platform to share their work. Presenters will be able to receive feedback from fellow artists and make connections through their work. Their first show will take place on May 21st, 2015.
The night will consist of two performances, choreographers must be available for both shows. Submissions in any stage of the creative process are welcome and can be up to 10 minutes in length. Works of any dance style are invited to apply.
Furthermore, choreographers will receive a video of their work and professional photos from the evening’s performance. After the show, the audience will be invited to stay for a talk-back session and open-bar.
Information about this showcase and how to submit is available here
Charlotte New Music Festival, Dance Co-Lab
Summer-study opportunity for the dancers!
Opportunity:
There are several dance positions and two on-campus choreographer positions that are open to be filled for this summer’s Dance Co-Lab intensive by the Charlotte New Music Festival. They are re-opening applications for these positions and will keep the application process open until April 11th (or until positions are filled, dancers submitting earlier are therefore more likely to be accepted).
Overview: June 15-17th
All dancers/choreographers will be able to have daily rehearsals, be mentored by dance professionals, take master technique classes and choreography classes by the 2015 featured Dance Faculty: Vincent E. Thomas (TU), Janet Lilly (UNCG), E.E. Balcos (UNCC), Ashley Suttlar Martin (WU, Charlotte Ballet), Jackie O-Toole (JCSU), Lauren Skrabalak (WU), Bianca Morgan (UNCC), Arlynn Zachary (CNMF), Rayni Collins (Dance/Movement Therapist), and Ellen Brown (Massage Therapist).
Each choreographer will work side-by-side with their own designated composer to create an original work that participating dancers will perform to, showcasing the culmination of everyone’s efforts in a finale showcase the last weekend of the festival (performed to live music by professional musicians)!

Periapsis Music and Dance
Periapsis Music and Dance is a small performing arts non-profit in New York, building free resources for choreographers related to working with music, musicians, and composers. These include an international list of composers interested in dance collaborations, plus informational pages covering various practical, logistical, and artistic issues that may come up when working with music. It’s an ongoing project that they will continue to develop over time.
While intended for young, freelancing professionals, Periapsis Music and Dance believes these resources would be of interest to students, as well as to more established artists who would like to deepen their involvement with music and musicians.
