ADMINISTRATIVE NOTES AND REMINDERS
Reminder of Sign-in Process for Attending Required Departmental Concerts
A reminder that BFAs are required to attend Departmental Concerts. Students must arrive on time and sign in with Brillana before entering the theater. Signing in is the only acceptable proof of attendance. Students who forget to sign in or arrive after the sign-in period has closed will not receive attendance credit. Sign-in with Brillana is only for students attending as an audience member–it is not for students who are performing or doing production work. Failure to attend a required concert results in one strike towards artistic probation.
Hollie will be out of the office from Monday April 18th- Wednesday April 20th, returning for the DancePlus performances, and will have limited access to email during this time. Dr. Cohen is in the office in case any students need to be seen for any injuries or follow up appointments. Students can call the Hurtado Health Center at 848-932-7402 and identify themselves as a MGSA dancer to schedule an appointment with Dr. Cohen. Any questions regarding students and performance status can be directed to John. Please refer to the policies posted in all the studios regarding any emergencies or injuries that may occur while Hollie is away.
WEEK 13 BALLET AND TECHNIQUE SCHEDULES
Pilobolus Creative Process
April 20, 2016
ALL BFA Required
Since 1971, Pilobolus Dance Theater has been making dances that are as quirky, diverse, and imaginative as the members that make up the company. Based in a collaborative creation process, one with improvisation at is core, each performer contributes to each creation, allowing for multiple voices to be heard in one piece. This unique approach to making movement helps the company to continually evolve over time. Heather Favretto and Mark Fucik will share insites into the process and culture of Pilobolus, and making dance your living.
HEATHER JEANE FAVRETTO grew up in New Jersey where her hyperactivity as a child drove her parents to place her in dance classes. Sixteen years later, she received her BFA in Dance from Rutgers University and was awarded the Dance Express Honor for four years of consistently outstanding choreography. Upon graduation she worked for Douglas Dunn and Dancers, Cleo Mack Dance Project, and Naganuma Dance. She first joined Pilobolus in 2010 to work on a musical adaptation of James and the Giant Peach at Goodspeed Operahouse. Other favorites with Pilobolus include: RadioLab LIVE! In The Dark, a collaboration with WNYC radio moguls (and personal heroes) Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, and best of all Shadowland! She joined the cast in 2012 and has been having a blast ever since!
MARK FUCIK grew up on a small farm in Walnut Creek California. He received a BA in theater from Rutgers University where he started dancing at 21. He got his start with John Evans and Dancers, and Patricia Nanon at The Yard, Ivy Baldwin, and the Cleo Mack Dance Project. He joined Pilobolus in 2001 and toured with the main company until 2005. In 2005 he transitioned into teaching for Pilobolus and continued to tour with Pilobolus’ Satellite Company and Creative Services. Mark helped to realize and create Pilobolus Shadowland in 2008 touring the show as it’s Dance captain for two years. He is now Shadowlands’ Creative Director. He also works and teaches with Alison Chase as the Associate Artistic Director of Alison Chase Project.
