Courses offered in Spring 2020
“Total Work of Art” – Topology & Design Course is 3 credit 400-level class (11:550:480) and is taught in seminar style on Fridays 12:35pm–3:35pm. It has multiple excursions as part of the curriculum that substitute/complement classroom gatherings. Amongst the fixed excursions are the attendance of the final dress rehearsal of Richard Wagner´s “The Flying Dutchman” (Der Fliegende Holländer) at the Metropolitan Opera on February 28thas of 10:30am; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the James Rose Center & one dance performance (TBD). The fees for entrances and tickets are mostly covered.
The class aims to bring together students from landscape architecture, visual arts, music, performance art, and German literature and art history. All other disciplines are equally welcome if students share interest in the course content. Our readings and investigations identify artistic endeavors, where the knowledge and performative skills of different disciplines are brought together with the aim to improve peoples’ lives. It is an utopian idea with a political dimension fostering equity, democracy, personal catharsis and freedom of expression.
The goal of the class is to make students aware how their own discipline is closely related to others and that they all contribute to a field of cultural production as well as to foster design and performances related aspects in the curriculum. The class will count as an elective and, hopefully, as writing requirement (in the process of qualifying for this).
The class is open to change with all individual ideas and contributions as long as we stay in the realm of the “Gesamtkunstwerk / all-embracing art form” idea. More info on the opera we will watch:

- If you always wanted to pass the threshold of institutions like the MetOpera or the MetMuseum but never had an opportunity to do so and to relate this to your learning at Rutgers
- If you are team player and actively participate in field trips
Course Description:
The rise of contemporary dance. The explosion in physicality (faster, bigger, higher). Barefoot vs. Socks. Modern dance or Postmodern? The rise of dance injury prevention and treatment. Instagram and the quest for dance perfection. Competitions: A Necessary Evil? Misty Copeland and the Black Ballerina. Dance from non-Western cultures. Key Broadway choreographers today. The Dominance of Hip hop. All of these are possible topics for Innovations in Dance. Here is an opportunity for both the serious dance student and the casual fan to explore the art form through expository writing.
Course Objectives:
The objective of this course is to write a research paper looking at a significant way that dance has changed within a certain time period or timeframe – and to contextualize that discussion within a more general discussion of dance culture, a certain genre, style or movement, a historical period or a particular innovation or series of innovations that have advanced or impacted the art form.

The late registration period for the Winter 2020 term has begun. Students may continue to register, but a $125 late fee will be assessed. A Christmas Carol
The classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge comes to life on stage in spectacular fashion as this multi-cultural musical celebration is delivered in a unique fashion in a way that only Crossroads can. This performance is choreographed by MFA Alum, Camille Moten alongside our Music Coordinator, Mesia Austin whom is the Music Director

Inspira Seeking Dance Teacher
- Classes are thirty minutes in length.
- Day needed: Saturday, 12pm – 3pm in New Brunswick.
- BFA or BA in Dance Preferred, but not required.
- Must have 2 years minimum teaching experience.
- Candidates must have excellent, organization, effective verbal and written communication, creative and flexible teaching style, and an enthusiastic and warm approach with students.
